How this site makes money, and how I label anything that could affect what I write.
The short version
I only write about trails I have personally hiked and gear I have personally used. Nobody pays for a positive review, and no brand gets approval over what I publish. Where money or free product is involved, I say so plainly and in the same place you read the recommendation.
Affiliate links
Some pages contain affiliate links. If you buy something through one of them, I may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate links are marked on every page where they appear, and the presence of a commission never determines whether a piece of gear is recommended.
Sponsored content
Any content produced under a paid partnership is labelled #Ador “Paid partnership” at the top of the page, before the content itself, in accordance with Ad Standards Canada guidance. Sponsors do not receive editorial approval.
Gifted product and hosted trips
Gear provided free of charge is labelled #Gifted, and hosted stays, tours, or press trips are labelled #InvitedGuest, whether or not there was any obligation to post. Accepting a product does not guarantee coverage, and I will say when something did not work.
Photography and licensing
Photographs on this site are my own. Commercial licensing and commissioned work are separate from editorial content - a licensing client does not receive coverage in guides as part of that arrangement. See the licensing page.
AI use
Every trail assessment, condition report, and photograph on this site comes from me being there in person. I use software tools to help with formatting, structure, and editing, but the experience, judgments, and imagery are mine, and I do not publish generated photographs or invented trail conditions.
