What this site is
Photographs of British Columbia, and writing about the trips behind them. Trail guides still live here: each one carries the date I was last there, what the parking and the passes actually involved, and where the trail turned out to be harder or easier than its reputation.
It is deliberately not comprehensive. I would rather keep a small number of guides I can stand behind than a large number I cannot, and when I have not been somewhere recently the date on the page says so rather than quietly implying otherwise.
Most of the guides still carry a placeholder image rather than a photograph. Those are being replaced as I get back out with a camera; until then the page shows a schematic of the route rather than a picture I did not take.
Photography
I shoot landscape and outdoor work across British Columbia. My photography has been viewed 3.2M times on Pexels, and I license images and shoot commissioned work for brands and destinations - details on the licensing page.
How I keep the record
- Every trail is one I have walked, and each guide records the date I was last there.
- Distances, elevation, and access rules are checked against official sources before publishing.
- Conditions notes are dated, because a snowline observation from March is not useful in June.
- Where a trail is dangerous, popular beyond its capacity, or simply overrated, the guide says so.
Land acknowledgment
This site is made on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
The trails on this site cross the territories of many Nations. Each guide names the territory it travels through, and where a park is closed for cultural use, that closure is respected and documented rather than worked around.
